We finally arrived tonight in Kapsowar! It was quite the journey. The first day we traveled 7 hours from Chogoria to Kabarak University where we met with Dr. Bruce Dalman (the one who organized our trip). Not often that you can say "kids we just crossed the equator" but we got to say that 4 times during the drive. We started the drive with Josef sick - he threw up a little right away and then dry heaved quickly after that. We were all a little worried - how was this day long trip going to go?! We all prayed and really feel that God healed Josef - he took a nap and woke up his normal self. Today we traveled first to Iten which is the Kenyan running capital, (almost 1000 athletes train here full time). Bruce had arranged a meeting with a running coach which turned into a large group meeting discussing the future of sports medicine in Kenya. Jeremy will travel back to Iten on Tuesday to meet with people again including the Minister of Sport and Minister of Health for the region. Then we took an approximately 40 km journey that took us 2 hours since there really was no road. Along the way kids would see us and yell "Mzungu" which means "white people." This is definitely a more remote area then we have previously visited. We had no idea what to expect at Kapsowar - we had prepared our kids for no other families or play things - ends up there are 3 families with 4 kids each and another family with 2 kids - plus a basketball court and lots of kid toys. We have a nice house - not sure it has hot water but it is clean and we all have beds. In our back yard are 3 pigs. Dinner was waiting for us - American chili and even homemade cookies - heaven! It is really beautiful country as you can see - we are at 8000 ft of elevation. God is good - we start the Kapsowar adventure tomorrow. Love to all - Christine
